Hamilton, MT: The City of Hamilton has received a $240,000 grant from the Big Sky Economic Trust Fund (BSTF) Program to assist GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) with the purchase of equipment and is contingent upon hiring of up to 32 employees through July 2013. The majority of new hires will be scientifically based positions working primarily in the manufacturing center of the Hamilton facility.

After just two years of providing courses, the Bitterroot College Program of The University of Montana is growing so quickly it is expanding its facility. In fall 2009, the Hamilton-based BCP offered six college courses in which 29 students enrolled. This fall the program expects to enroll more than 200 students in 35 courses. In addition to the BCP’s college programming, during the 2010-11 academic year the BCP served more than 300 students seeking workforce training in computer applications and business planning. Community members and business owners please remember that Victor is open for business. Construction going on in and around Victor for the past two years along with our economy has put a damper on business patronage in Victor. I used to stop in Victor frequently until the most recent bought of construction, then I, like many others began taking the Eastside Hwy around the construction. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced on June 30 the selection of 44 community-based organizations to receive funding to promote economic growth. The funding is being provided through the Rural Community Development Initiative Program (RCDI). RCDI helps community-based development organizations, federally recognized Indian tribes and other groups promote economic growth in low-income, rural communities. “These funds support USDA’s partnership with rural America to bring increased economic opportunity to rural citizens and communities,” Vilsack said. “They will serve as investments that will help organizations build the capacity and expertise of local businesses, business owners and nonprofit groups.”

The Ravalli County Economic Development Authority (RCEDA), kicks off its 6th session of business planning and technology classes for summer starting with its first evening classes. Spreadsheet and accounting software classes will be offered from 6-9pm starting Thursday July 14th with QuickBooks.
