Doug is a Montana native, being born in Anaconda, and raised in Missoula. Growing up the son of a local jeweler, he was exposed to the retail jewelry trade from an early age.

After high school, Doug graduated from the Gemological Institute of America with the title of Graduate Gemologist. Through a professional association with the American Gem Society, Doug achieved the titles of Registered Jeweler, Certified Gemologist, and as one of the first 25 Certified Gemologist Appraisers in the US and Canada.

Working in the family business gave him an appreciation for the retail industry, and how important it is for the community to help support its merchants. He was involved in the organization of the Missoula Downtown Association, and participated in the merchants’ organization in the South Gate Mall.

After the family jewelry store was sold, Doug received his bachelor of science from the University of Montana. He is now a Certified Public Accountant, and is a partner in the firm of Owings and Davis CPA’s PLLP, here in Hamilton. Again, many years of experience in the community of Hamilton have furthered the belief that there needs to be more involvement between the community and its merchants. The path followed now is to be involved in organizations that help foster a better economic climate and further community support.

Doug has been involved with the Kiwanis group in Missoula and Tucson, AZ, having served twice on the board of directors, and currently sits on the boards of the Missoula Ravalli Transit Management Association and the Ravalli Economic Development Authority. All of these organizations are dedicated to the ideals that Doug sees for his home, and place of work, the Bitterroot Valley.

Doug and his wife Anna have two children, both still living in Missoula. Doug is particularly fond of golf and both he and his wife are ardent Griz fans!
